It’s been a while. A long while. But we went to the movin’ pitcher show the other day. Well it’s been so hot, ya gotta find things to do indoors. I mean it’s HOT. Like over 106 degrees here in my BackYard this PM. Why shoot. It’s been so hot I hadda get a new do for the summer. Does this short do make my butt look fat? Mymi says I look 8 HY younger. Is she just being nice?
Whatever! Back to Meagan Leavy. Which the movie really ought to have been called Rex the War Dog, cuz Rex was the true hero of the show. See Rex kinda saved Meagan Leavy & a whole buncha military personnel over there in Iraq.
Meagan Leavy was sort of a drop out dead end kid when she decided to join the Marines. She was kind of a loner & had trouble finding her niche there in the Marines. Then she got sent to clean the kennels of the War Dogs in training. There she encountered Rex, who was something of a loner himself. They bonded. But Rex wasn’t real interested in learning his new tasks & responsibilities.
So Meagan offered to give it a try. After she got spoofed into not wearing protective K9 training gear by her fellow Marines. Lesson learned thought Meagan. Anyway they went thru their training to sniff out & mark IEDs in the roads covered by the Marines bringing supplies to troops out in the desert. Over there in Iraq.
Then they got sent to Iraq together, as the team they were. They sniffed out & marked (with little flags not the usual K9 method of marking but I guess little flags mean more to humans that p-mail) over 100 missions. Then 1 time (it only takes 1) they stepped on an unusually deeply buried IED & went BOOM.
Both Meagan & Rex were injured & sent back here to the US of A where they got separated. Meagan went to military human hospital & Rex to the same Animal Hospital. Eventually they both recovered but they missed each other. Meagan mustered out after her tour. Brass thought it OK to send Rex back into combat without Meagan. They weren’t having any of that nonsense.
Meagan made appeals & pleas all over the place & up the ying yang. Finally Meagan reached out to the right person on the steps on Congress where almost nothing else gets done anyway. That person pulled the right strings (no wonder us dogs can’t get the K9 Franchise. We aren’t much good at string pulling) & Meagan got her request granted.
Meagan & Rex are both decorated war heroes & Rex didn’t have to go back into combat. Rex passed on back to PlanetPluto in HY 2012. Meagan trains security K9s for some of America’s biggest agencies. Adios Rex. You were a good dog & knew your purpose. You had a good partner & served your country well & bravely.
